April 2009 Thai Cuisine offers some of the most intricate dishes out there with endless combination of sweet and spicy and pungent and salty. Much of what is served in California is food based in central Thailand near Bangkok, but just a smattering of dishes come from the north, south, and eastern portion of the country. Pumpkin curry from Siam Dish in Redlands may not come from a particular region, but its distinctiveness sets it apart from most of the familiar Thai dishes, such as pad Thai and sate. A creamy coconut milk-based red curry is chock full of pieces of fresh pumpkin, bell peppers, basil and your choice of meat. (I think chicken works best.) The curry is highly aromatic and the depth of favor and multi-textured mouth feel yield up a culinary experience par excellence. |
